A Firsthand Review of the New Yealink T54S Smart Media Phone
Before I buy a product, I am that person who ferociously reads through reviews & testimonials. I seek out as much consumer knowledge as possible before buying essentially any product. A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to give the Yealink T54S Smart Media Phone a whirl. Prior to trying the Yealink T54S, I was using the T46G, which I was happy with. As the Marketing Manager for 888VoIP, I was looking for a sleek solution with user-friendly features. Here are my final thoughts on the T54S:
Size – Small yet Ideal: The Yealink T54S is small, compact, and sleek, and it takes up very little room on my already cramped desk. The screen is not attached to the phone on all sides. This makes the phone appear a lot less bulky than others. Why does this matter to me? My desk is often a sea of papers, especially when working on design projects. It’s imperative that I maximize the little space I have. The smaller the phone, the more space I have for the important projects that I am currently tackling.
Handset – Small yet Ideal: I dislike having to hold a heavy handset that feels cumbersome in my hand. Since I prefer a handset to a headset, a light-weight handset is ideal. The Yealink T54S has a smaller handset, one that some people may have to get used to. I found it to be a lot easier to hold – both with my hand and when propped up against my shoulder to my ear. For users that prefer headsets, the Yealink T54S features built-in Bluetooth 2.0 for Bluetooth headsets.
Screen – Vibrant & Perfectly Angled: The Yealink T54S sports a 4.3” 480 x 272-pixel color display with backlight and the picture is extremely vivid. Even with a dark wallpaper, text & colors pop out. While the screen itself is not adjustable, the T54S was redesigned with a higher screen angle. This is definitely noticeable and does make viewing the screen much more convenient.
Audio – Clear & Great for Those with Harder Hearing: I have issues with hearing & on many phones, including my beloved smartphone, I sometimes cannot hear almost anything on the other line. The Yealink T54S has extremely high audio quality, especially since its hardware & software was designed to completely improve the quality of the handset & speakerphone. The SIP-T54S features a highly versatile audio codec, Opus. This codec been designed to perform higher HD audio quality than other wideband codecs in a high network bandwidth.
User-Friendly, especially for the “not-so-tech-savvy”: While I have an easy time learning how to use a new product, many people may not be so lucky; however, the Yealink T54S is so easy to understand. Say hello to a lower learning curve (and lower costs associated with training on new hardware!). The main screens that your regular user would take advantage of – history, phonebook, menu – are simple & effective. The phone is also quite easy to customize if your users need more than the basics.
The Overall Recommendation
The Yealink T54S exceeded any expectations that I had. I would highly recommend this phone, especially for a user that does not have a phone heavy role throughout the day. While I recommend this solution for someone in a role like mine (marketing & graphic design), the T54S was also specially designed for high-end office users. This phone would also highly perform for a phone heavy user, especially since it is compatible with a Bluetooth headset. It is perfect for any business professional looking to free up space on his or her desk and does not want to sacrifice the high quality & functionality of a Yealink phone.
