How To: Upgrade Your 3CX PBX Key to a Commercial Edition

It’s time for you to upgrade your free 3CX PBX Edition key to a Paid Standard, Professional or Enterprise Key. But, how do you go about doing this? Fortunately, there are two different ways to go about upgrading your free 3CX PBX Edition key.
The first method, which is the easiest way to upgrade your key, involves contacting your sales representative to simply upgrade your existing free key. Once the key has been upgraded, you will just need to reboot the server and you will be on your way. If you have a key you have already purchased or have a key you want to use, you will have to go about using the second method. This method requires an uninstall/reinstall of the PBX. When utilizing the second method, how you take your backup will be extremely important.

Changing Your 3CX Key to a New Key:

1) When you Take the Backup of the server, you must uncheck the option to “Include license key information and FQDN,” as shown below.

2) Once the backup has been completed and you have downloaded the backup to a safe location, you can now simply uninstall the 3CX Server.
3) After the uninstall, it is time to reinstall 3CX and upload your backup file. Once your backup file is loaded, go ahead and click next. When prompted, you will have to enter your new 3CX key. Then you can continue to proceed with the install.
